My little girl has just been diagnosed.

She has had white patches for a couple of years but she's just developed one on her forehead!

Its only small, about half an inch in diameter. She has five patches in total all over her body.

I have been to my drs who wants to see her again in two months then he MIGHT refer her to a specialist but she will probably have to wait a year for an appointment.

I am worrying. I read somewhere that some steroid creams can slow the spread. 14 months seems a long time to wait.

Am I wrong to worry, or wrong to wait so long?

Any help very much appreciated.

I would not recommend steroids on somebody so young. We have some information on our web page concerning the long term use of steroids and they would strain a young person's liver and kidneys for various reasons. The short terms results of steroids are not usually worth it in the long run, especially for an initially mild condition. I would get out the phone book to find a specialist elsehwhere, although I do not know if you have many options in your area. There is only limited treatment options for Vitiligo. Your local doctor should probably be able to prescribe Protopic, but I am unsure if that is safe for children - you will need to ask your doctor or read the packaging properly. In some parts of the world Narrow Band UVB is used in children, and although we obviously supply this equipment, I would not never simply just recommend this treatment for a young person unless it is properly supervisred and recommended by your specialist.

Regarding your worry, Vitiligo typically takes a very long time to spread, so a long wait may not be an issue if the condition is not getting any worse in particular. But I would not wait, hunt around. The sooner treatment is started, the shorter treatment will likely be.

"mum of three" should use natural treatment for vitiligo, as I find it very usefull at all.

And I am not the only one saying this... you can find several people agreeing with me about natural and herbal vitiligo treatment products and their positive outcome and as a matter of fact none of them have come across any side effects although used by people of different age groups.

Soak 500 gm of grounded turmeric on 8 liters of water overnight. Boil it in the morning until 1 liter of water is left. Strain, and then mix with 500 ml mustard oil. Heat until only the oil is left. Strain again then store in a bottle. Apply on white patches every morning and evening for a few months. This may help you...Take care..
