hello Firefly and welcome. Have you had any success with any lotion or potion in particular?

I used diprisone for so long that my skin became thin and fragile. needless to say, I don't use it anymore ! temporary relief at best, but some people swear by it.

At the moment i am using Dovobet Ointment it's a little greasy but it seems to work for me at the minute,i am also using Borage oil i put about 8 drops into my body moisturiser and use daily.I have had P for 30rys and have tried and tested many things eg:Alternative therapies,changing my diet(which i am not very good at ) but hav'nt tried the Dead SEA yet which is said to be amazing.What i have learn't over the years is not to burn the candle at both ends and to take tme out of my busy life for some TLC.
Having a site like this is FAB to be able to share ideas and to talk to people who know how you may be feeling.

just picked up skincap seems to help quite a bit
but it hurts on the sensitive area very painful

Although the manufacturer of Skincap now says their product is steroid free, this certainately was not the case previously, please see here; http://www.beatpsoriasis.com/skincap.htm IT contained several powerful steroids without mentioning this on the label. It landed the supplier in hot water with the FDA and other health authorities around the world. They sent samples to psoriasis associations all over the world, it recieved fantastic reviews until it was tested by a laboratory....

Yikes!!! My Dermatologist has me using Clobex lotion and more recently Clobex Spray (5%) - which is Clobetasol Propionate. At least it is sold as such and I have read the circular on it but results and side effects didn't seem to be as dire as I'm reading out here and other sites. We are also starting UVB therapy with CP Oxsoralen ointment but she wants me to continue with the Clobex spray.

Should I be more concerned or is this safe for long term?

Hi,

Steroids are a perfectly valid treatment when used in moderation and knon dosages. The problem with things like Skin-Cap and Skin-Zinc and Blue-Cap is they contained MULTIPLE STRONG steroids mixed in very large quantities for "shock and fast" results. Many properly medicated steroids are in very low dosages and probably largely safe. But the warnings are probably the same. Typically a steroid may be used early in treatment for immediate results and relief, but followed with phototherapy or other treatment for the longer term relieft. Steroids by themselves, particularly long term, would be counter productive and potentially dangerous. If you are being supervised by a good dermatologist you should be in good hands - but also do not neccessarily take this for granted either!

welcome again firefly - I think this place to great. I have not been back for a while due to work committments, but I've learnt so much new stuff about psoriasis today I'm heading to the store tomorrow to pickup a few things to try, includinga bunch of cherries!

yikes, I wouldn't touch the stuff seeing their dodgy advertising practices.
