Dead Sea Salts

Postby Nick Balgowan » Thu Oct 26, 2006 3:21 pm

Here is something that may be of interest. I have often thought that a holiday at the Dead Sea probably involved a lot of sun. From talking with people, it is usually psoriasis sufferers form the colder climates that travel to the Dead Sea looking for relief from their psoriasis. So a holiday to any sunny location may be just as good. A chemical analysis of Dead Sea Salts show no particularly interested contents.

Sea, Salt, and Sun

Some psoriasis sufferers have tried salt water to relieve their itchy or painful skin. Some have even made pilgrimages to the world's saltiest lake, the Dead Sea.

"The Dead Sea is excellent for psoriatic treatment," says Lawrence C. Parish, M.D., clinical professor of dermatology and cutaneous biology at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. "But no one knows if the water itself has merit or whether the sun is the important part." As the lowest point on the planet, the Dead Sea region has unique weather and receives a distinctive spectrum of ultraviolet light from the sun.

Soaking in bath water containing Dead Sea salts or Epsom salts may have limited value. "It can help remove the scales of psoriasis and make people feel better," says Parish, "but no one has shown these salts to have a therapeutic effect."

Whether at the Dead Sea or anywhere else, sunlight can have a positive effect on psoriasis. "But be reasonable about it," Parish says. "A little bit of sun is fine." He advises wearing a wide-brimmed hat and applying sunscreen several times a day. "Anyone who wears makeup knows if you put it on at 8 o'clock in the morning, it doesn't last until 8 at night," he says, and neither does sunscreen.

Hi Nick :

i have tried the dead sea and the only thing i can tell you that it gets u reliefed for a small period and then the plaques will be back, i know a lot of dermas and doctors at the dead sea, as a matter of fact you are treating the manifestation of the P rather than the root cause which is toxin in our bodies, believe me that a diet can work, i tried literally everything on P and the only way was alternative medicine which provides drug free way to GET RID of poriasis and having generally better health, believe me my friends that the food is a major cause for toxins in our bodies ...

Weired to say sometimes i say to myself: after all the pain and embarresment i have been in, i say : it's goos that i had Psoriasis to look at my life from different point of view !! Diet and positive thinking can remove the root cause !

but if u want to come for leisure it's surely one of the places i really enjoy...tourists are from all over the land specally with the jesus baptism location being few kilometers near :-)
Wish you all free Psoriasis Life ==> and it will happen

hi, I'm glad you found something that works for you. But works for you, may have no results or cause more problems for others. Every published diet has been investigated, and there is no medical evidence to support any one diet or to proven any "toxin" causes psoriasis. I have personally tried just about every diet over the years without any results at all. A friend of mine removed milk from her diet and her psoriasis "goes away." It turns out she had Allergic Dermatitis that is often mistaken for psoriasis. Has your condition been diagnosed by a skin biopsy by any chance?
