DERMATITIS

Dermatitis is generally evident when one sees flakes on the skin. It is found most often on the scalp. Adolescents and adults are affected with it and is commonly known as "dandruff." Amongst babies, it is called "cradle cap." And it is not that dermatitis only affects the scalp, it is also found to affect the skin on other parts like face, chest, and creases of the arms, legs, and groin. One of the common types of dermatitis is the Seborrheic dermatitis which makes skin look greasy and scaly or flaky. Dermatitis is found generally in babies younger than three months and amongst adults it prevails from adolescent to old age. Strangely, Dermatitis is more common in men than in women for an unknown reason.

Seborrheic Dermatitis could be considered as a disease that results in flaking of the skin predominantly on the scalp. It is called dandruff in adolescents and adults and in babies it is called "cradle cap." And Secorrheic dermatitis is not restricted to scalp. It is also found on face, chest, and creases of the arms, legs, and groin. And studies have revealed that it is most common in babies younger than three months of age or in adults from thirty years to sixty years of age and generally men have to face it more than women.

Experts around the world are trying to find the exact cause of dermatitis and till now no exact cause has been found. It is thought that the reasons might be different in infants and adults. Seborrheic dermatitis is perhaps caused due to hormonal disorders as it generally surfaces in infancy and vanishes before puberty. The cause might be in the fungus "malassezia." This fungus is usually present on the skin but in small numbers and when its number increases, skin trouble starts.

Some researches have linked Seborrheic dermatitis with neurological disorders like Parkinson's disease and epilepsy. The exact reason behind it is yet not known though.

As for the treatment of Seborrheic dermatitis, it depends on where it is located and on the age of the person.

A very popular as well as effective treatment is from Ultra Violet light offered by the Dermalight80. It is undoubtedly the original and the best hand held UV phototherapy device present.
