I have been diagnosed with psoraisis by my derm and also suffer from a major hair loss problem. I had a few Q's, maybe someone can help.

1. Can psoraisis cause major hairloss? My hairloss is NOT patchy, the hairline is intact but the top of the head there is major thinning of hair. I have been consistently losing hair for 4-5 yrs. I am 23 yrs right now. I have also had the psoraisis problem since back them however i had'nt treated myself for the same until recently. My psoraisis seems to be quite severe.

2. I have been using rogaine for quite sometime. Is rogaine any good when my psorasis is flared up?

thanks

Hi, thanks for posting to our new support forum. Yes, psoriasis and other inflamation conditions can contribute or cause hair loss. Rogaine is often delivered in an alcohol based solution that can also dry already very dry skin. I certainately would not be using a alcohol based solution on inflammed skin, particularly if you are seeing a reaction?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Well i am trying to use rogaine in areas where i have less scales anyway i guess i would trickle to areas where i am affected. Also, is using betamethasone (for psoraisis) and rogaine together advisable? I have recently started putting betamethasone on my scalp and the psoraisis has reduced considerable. Can i use both together cause i dont wanna stop betamethasone?

Also, about the hair loss can psoraisis patients opt for a hair transplant? As i mentioned i am 23 and have lost a lot of hair already, hair loss IS NOT patchy but the hair is scanty. Do you think this hair loss temporary (although it doesnt seem to be cause i have been like this for quite some time now)?

thanks

hi, mixing medicines or drugs is not often recommended, mainly because they haven't been trialled. it may or may not be safe. if you want to do this, I would contact the drug manufacturers and ask them, or at least trial on a very small patch of skin first.

Hi Psotest,
I also have hair loss which is connected to my P and have found that massaging olive oil or hemp oil into the scalp helps to stimulate the hair folicle which can sometimes help with regrowth it also helps my scalp P from becoming to dry.

Hope this helps :)

Hi firefly,

Your hairloss which is connected to P, firstly how did u know it was connected to P? Most of my doctors tell me P is mostly NOT entirely responsible for my hair loss(which is quite severe).

Secondly, do you see this hair growing back or do you find this hairloss permanent?

bye

hi psotest - I noticed that there is no hair on the patches of psoriasis that I have on my arms, so I imagine hair loss can be contributed to psoriasis in some areas? is this what you have seen happening.
