Vitiligo Treatment with NB-UVB Dermalight80

Vitiligo is the name of a pigmentation disorder in which the pigment making cells in the skin, the mucous membranes that line the inside of the nose, mouth, genital, and rectal areas are damaged and eventually destroyed. Since the pigment making cells are absent from affected skin areas, there is the emergence of white patches. Hair growing in such areas will usually be white. There is no known cure, natural or artificial, for vitiligo.

The only known element that can be considered as a relief mechanism is celery. The high psoralen content of celerey helps to improve skin reaction to sunlight and this is the closest that anyone can come to a cure.

Vitiligo is neither rare nor common skin problem. It strikes at random and often causes great distress to its victims because it affects their general appearance. Some estimates indicate that 2% of the global population across both genders suffers from vitiligo. There are no racial or genetic differences that influence or prevent the risk of contracting vitiligo. Though there is no confirmation about any age limits it has been observed that most victims developed this problem before the age of 25.

Vitiligo is not something that you can "catch" from another person. Vitiligo is neither contagious nor infectious and though there are no cures as of now there are many treatments available. Even then, treatment itself is quite difficult and is best applied when the problem first manifests itself.

Some of the common treatments for vitiligo include.
• Ultraviolet B radiation exposure, also known as narrow band light therapy.
• Prescription medications that are taken orally.
• Topical creams and gels.
• Pigmentation enhancing agents like methoxsalen.
• Immunosuppressant agents like pimecrolimus and tacrolimus.
• Corticosteroid creams and gels.

In severe cases it may be necessary to conduct skin grafting. This process involves removal of skin from a healthy area and replanting it over the affected area. Current research is attempting to grow skin cells in the laboratory so that replacement is more direct.

Dermalight80 is the first handheld UV device and it is also among the very best of its kind. Dermalight80 is manufactured following strict quality controls and medical standards while still being the most economical device for home use. For people seeking a phototherapy device for home use, the Dermalight80 is very compact and quite versatile. Dermalight80 may be used to cure any affected body part. A special attachment in the shape of a comb is included to treat scalp areas. This special attachment is very effective and provides a high degree of UVB penetration for treatment of skin problems.
